Tom and I had a fun outing at The Zoo planned with his work so GG and Grandpa came over for the evening.
Ty and Grandpa got right to work with our new Citiblocs, and they built a JEEP of course!
Despite the FRIGID temperatures it was off to The Zoo for Tom and I. We were told to wear not-so-nice clothes and shoes that we might not care too much about. Hmm…
*It was AMAZING to see the elephants up close like this. They love FEET so they were feeling my feet a ton with their trunks. Their skin/hair feels so interesting. I was glad we obeyed orders to wear scruffy clothes because we most certainly did have a “stench” about us until we showered before bed!
Wednesday Ty had his last day of school before his Winter Christmas Break. The schedule was a bit different because it was his Christmas Party and Marlo and I attended as well.
He was so excited to give his teachers, Mrs. Louis and Mrs. Putman their gifts. He chose their special bags on his own (with gift cards inside-for Target of course!!)
Gingerbread House-making time :) Thank goodness he had no qualms about Sissy jumping right in there and arranging his candies!
And let me just tell you, in my few years teaching and doing these same gingerbread houses, I never saw a method like Ty’s! He’s a one-of-a-kind boy that’s for sure…
He was stashing all the decorations (candies, marshmallows, etc.) INSIDE the house :)
Sweet little sis being a helper :)
Stringing cranberries and popcorn on wire (AKA for Marlo: transferring contents of each bin into other bins, squishing cranberries, repeating the process…)
Enjoying a snack, on the carpet?? Hey, it was an iced cookie, he was happy to ingest it in any manner available!
And then…the singing!
Lining up with his friends for some Christmas tunes…
After the party we came home and lunched and napped (yes, I am included in that little siesta too!). After nap I heard a pretty loud thud, which I thought was a bird hitting a front window-which does happen quite often. It was so loud that I thought it might’ve been a fatal hit so I looked out the front windows to see if there was a bird laying somewhere. None to be found. Then I walked through the kitchen and saw a huge flurry of activity…in the screened in porch…
Yep, a hawk. A Gos Hawk apparently (a hawk enthusiast and the eventual rescuer, Damon, informed me of this!).
You can see him (her?) flying around trying to get out and if you look above the bird you can see the slit in screen where it probably got in. Hence the horrid thud I heard. That must’ve been a serious flight right into our screen!
That creature wreaked havoc on our porch. There are several screens ruined from its erratic flying and attempts at escaping.
Enter the Baurichter Family! Heather was texting me that everyone was excited to see the hawk and possibly come help release him. They came over after dinner time and Savannah, the newly dubbed Hawk Whisperer!, brazenly walked into our screened in porch and just unlocked and opened the screen door! The hawk still wouldn’t go out on his own so they went out with towels and guided it right out. Wow.
These pictures are hard to see well (the kitchen table reflection makes it look weird) but this is when Damon and Savannah were out there shooing it with the towels.
Finally, I’m going to try really hard to upload the video of Ty singing with his class…it is precious :)
